The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, revealed that the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, chased him away during a visit. This incident has sparked tension between the two respected monarchs in Osun State.
The Oluwo has expressed disapproval of the Ooni’s relationship with traditionalists, whom he describes as “idol worshippers.” In a video, Oluwo warned against traditional practices, emphasizing his commitment to Islam.
The dispute between the two monarchs dates back to 2018 when Oluwo alleged that Ooni’s bodyguard pushed him during a meeting in Port Harcourt. Ooni denied the allegation.
The Oluwo recently clarified Iwo’s history, stating that the town converted to Islam in 1800 under Oba Memudu Ayinla Lamuye’s rule.
