Yesterday, in a heartwarming gesture, a generous donation of N75 million ($50,000 and N15 million) was presented to the Annunciation Specialist Hospital in Enugu by Peter Obi. The hospital, under the management of the Daughters of Divine Love (DDL) Sisters Congregation, received the substantial contributions aimed at fostering healthcare education in the country.
The notable sum of $50,000 was graciously provided by Prof Philip Ozuah, a friend and brother of the benefactor, while an additional N15 million came from Peter Obi himself. The funds are earmarked for the establishment of a College of Nursing Sciences at Annunciation Hospital, a pivotal initiative to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in Nigeria, particularly in the nursing sector.
Expressing enthusiasm for the noble project, the benefactor emphasized the critical need to bolster the ranks of medical care workers in the nation. Nigeria has been facing a shortage of healthcare professionals, especially nurses, hindering its ability to provide basic medical care.
Acknowledging the efforts of kind-hearted Nigerians contributing to the nation’s development, the donor urged fellow citizens to intensify their support for critical sectors. Despite the challenges the country faces, he encouraged a collective commitment to nation-building and emphasized the importance of individual contributions.
With Nigeria currently ranking low on the Human Development Index (HDI) due to neglect in crucial developmental sectors, the donor stressed that the responsibility of nation-building should not solely rest on the government. He called for citizens to play an active role in advancing the country’s progress.
In expressing gratitude, the benefactor thanked the proprietor, management, and staff of Annunciation Hospital for their continuous efforts in improving healthcare delivery over the years. The donation, coupled with collective efforts, aims to contribute towards building the New Nigeria envisioned by its citizens.
