Police Arrest Enugu Man for Brutal Murder of Mother and Sister
In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through Umuagu Inyi, Enugu State, a young man, Somadina Orji, has been apprehended by the Enugu State Police for the alleged gruesome murder of his mother, Mrs Charity Orji, and sister, Miss Ukamaka Orji. The victims were reportedly buried in a shallow grave in the family’s backyard.
The horrifying event unfolded on December 4, 2023, in the Oji River Local Government area of Enugu State. Somadina, hailing from Igboariam in Anambra State, is accused of committing the heinous crime following longstanding disputes with his mother, particularly over his involvement in drug-related activities.
According to sources and a video capturing the incident, Charity Orji, a native of Inyi but married in Igboariam, had been residing in her family house with her children for some years. The situation took a tragic turn when her son, reportedly entangled in drug-related issues, decided to resort to violence, ultimately leading to the deaths of both his mother and sister.
Community leader Ben Obi shed light on the escalating tensions, revealing that the problems began weeks prior when Somadina had a confrontation with his younger brother. The mother intervened, reporting the matter to local authorities. This intervention apparently angered Somadina, leading to a sinister plot against his own family.
Adding to the grim details, it was disclosed that the younger sister had been missing for two weeks before the fatal incident. Upon the mother’s return from a condolence visit, Somadina allegedly carried out the gruesome acts and buried the victims in the backyard.
The arrest and confession came to light when the younger brother raised an alarm upon discovering his mother’s disappearance. Somadina subsequently admitted to the killings, prompting the intervention of the police. The remains of the mother and sister were exhumed and deposited at the mortuary, while Somadina awaits prosecution.
Community leaders, including Mr Ben Obi and Mr Ejike Tasie, expressed concern over the prevalent use of hard drugs in the Inyi community. They called for government intervention to address the issue, emphasizing the absence of governing bodies in the community as a contributing factor.
Enugu State Police PRO, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect is in custody, and investigations are ongoing. Once concluded, Somadina will face charges in court, ensuring justice for the victims of this harrowing crime.
