A gun battle between the Lagos State Police Command and a group of kidnappers resulted in the death of nine suspects and the injury of two others. The police had received intelligence about a planned kidnapping attempt in the Ladipo area and laid an ambush for the suspects.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the kidnappers had planned to target wealthy individuals in various areas of Lagos State. The police were able to recover four AK-47 rifles, four locally-made pistols, and other weapons and equipment from the suspects.
The police also recovered two operational vehicles, a black Toyota 4Runner and a blue Lexus RX350, and are currently investigating to arrest the fleeing suspects. The Commissioner of Police, Fayoade, had directed the tactical teams to act on the intelligence two weeks prior, leading to the successful foiling of the kidnapping attempt.
