The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, is set to face police questioning on September 25 over allegations of terrorism financing, cybercrime, subversion, criminal conspiracy, and treasonable felony. Ajaero was initially invited for interrogation on Thursday but failed to appear, citing an engagement outside Abuja.
The police are investigating Ajaero’s alleged link to a Briton, Andrew Wynne, who has been accused of financing the recent #EndBadGovernance or #Hunger protest in the country to allegedly overthrow the government of President Bola Tinubu. The police had raided the NLC national secretariat in Abuja, leading to Ajaero’s invitation.
Ajaero’s counsel, Femi Falana (SAN), had hinted that the labour leaders might seek a postponement of the interrogation. The police have alleged that Ajaero and the NLC Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, were involved in criminal intimidation, conducts likely to cause a breach of public peace, and malicious damage to property.
The investigation is ongoing, and the police have promised to get back to our correspondent on the matter.
