The governor made this known during a courtesy visit from the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Baba Abubakar, at his office in Ibadan.
Makinde expressed his administration’s focus on key sectors, including education, agriculture, health, and economic expansion.
He revealed that his request to upgrade the airport had received a positive response from the Presidency. “We have been talking to the Presidency, and we got a response from them early this week that the President has graciously approved my request for Ibadan Airport to be upgraded,” he said.
The governor outlined the project’s timeline, stating, “I will be in Abuja soon to get the documents relating to the approval. And within three weeks, we will start the project.
We will expand the runway and build a new terminal.” This development is expected to enhance the airport’s capacity and facilitate international travel and economic growth in the region.
