A dispute between the Nigeria Police Force and the Police Service Commission (PSC) over recruitment processes has sparked concern among retired senior police officers. The police recently rejected a list of recruits released by the PSC, alleging that many of the names were not even applicants.
However, the PSC claims that a board constituted to oversee the recruitment process included a police representative and was endorsed by a Deputy Inspector General of Police.
Retired officers, including a former Deputy Inspector General of Police, Adedayo Adeoye, and a former Assistant Inspector General of Police, Ali Amodu, have expressed worry that the conflict is undermining the integrity of both organizations.
They suggest that the matter should have been resolved quietly and that the police have never been satisfied with the Supreme Court’s decision granting the PSC authority over police recruitment.
The retired officers urge the two organizations to work together, acknowledging that the police are responsible for training and deploying recruits.
They emphasize that the recruitment of unqualified individuals would have severe consequences for the country and the police force. The retired officers call for harmony and cooperation between the PSC and the police, prioritizing the best interests of the country and the force.
