The political atmosphere in Rivers State has become increasingly charged, with former PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, accusing Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of masterminding the crisis.
Secondus alleges that Wike is demarketing the state because Governor Siminalayi Fubara has blocked all loopholes to the state’s revenue.
Wike has been engaged in a feud with Governor Fubara, and Secondus claims that Wike has instructed his aides and political associates to continuously attack the governor and other state leaders in the media. Secondus describes Wike’s media attacks as “unwarranted and diversionary.”
In response, Wike denies telling anyone to worship him and says he only appreciates those who have helped him. He also commended the people of Ogu-Bolo for not allowing politics to divide them.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared full control over Rivers State, stating that Governor Fubara and the party now dominate the state’s political landscape.
The party claims that all legislators who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) have forfeited their seats, citing constitutional provisions.
The Rivers State Police Command has also explained its deployment of operatives at the State House of Assembly, stating that it is aimed at preventing a breakdown of law and order.
The political tensions in Rivers State continue to escalate, with various factions vying for control. The situation remains volatile, with no clear resolution in sight.
