RWANDA’S SHOCKING VICTORY OVER SOUTH AFRICA

Rwanda’s shocking victory over South Africa on Tuesday gave the Super Eagles of Nigeria new hope of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.With goals from Gilbert Mugisha and Innocent Nshuti, the Amavubi Stars defeated Bayana Bayana 2-0 to take the lead in group C and open up a berth for qualifying.

With two points from their opening two games, the Super Eagles are now only two points behind Rwanda at the top of the table, meaning qualification is still very much in sight. Despite having fewer goals scored, Lesotho and Zimbabwe are tied for third position with the same number of points as Nigeria.

With one point, Benin Republic comes in bottom.The next round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers will begin in June 2024, following two matches. In an important match, Nigeria will host South Africa in an attempt to bring back memories of losing out on the global competition in 2022.
