Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court has confirmed the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent moon on Thursday, June 7th.
This sighting signifies the beginning of the Islamic calendar’s twelfth and final month, a period marked by the Hajj pilgrimage and culminating in the major festival of Eid al-Adha.
The announcement paves the way for the Hajj pilgrimage, which will commence on Friday, June 14th. Arafat Day, a crucial day for pilgrims where they stand on the Plain of Arafat seeking forgiveness, falls on Saturday, June 15th.
Muslims worldwide will then celebrate Eid al-Adha, the “Festival of Sacrifice,” starting on Sunday, June 16th.
The sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent moon holds immense importance as it determines the start of the month and, in turn, the dates for Hajj and Eid al-Adha.
Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court had previously called upon Muslims in the kingdom to participate in the moon sighting, reflecting the significance of this tradition in confirming the new month and preparing for these important religious events.
