Senate Approves appointment of New CBN governor Cardoso
The Senate has officially approved the appointment of Dr. Olayemi Cardoso as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Dr. Cardoso, along with four other nominees for CBN Deputy Governors, has been confirmed to lead the apex bank for the next five years. The appointed Deputy Governors are Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro, Mr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Mr. Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala M. Bello.
It’s worth noting that Dr. Cardoso had been serving as the acting CBN governor pending his Senate confirmation, which has now been granted.
Furthermore, the Senate has announced plans to review and approve two additional ministerial nominees appointed by President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. The newly appointed ministers are Dr. Jamila Ibrahim and Ayodele Olawande, who will take on the roles of Minister of Youths and Minister of State for Youths, respectively.
