Seventy-year-old Ugandan woman gives birth to twins
A 70-year-old woman in Uganda has given birth to twins through IVF treatment, making her one of the oldest mothers. Safina Namukwaya delivered a boy and a girl via caesarean at a fertility centre in Kampala. She described the experience as a “miracle.”
The Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Centre (WHI&FC) celebrated the achievement, calling it more than a “medical success.” In 2019, a 73-year-old Indian woman also gave birth to twins through IVF.
Ms. Namukwaya shared her challenging journey, stating that her partner abandoned her upon learning about the twins. This marked her second delivery in three years, with her previous one being a baby girl in 2020.
