Sodiq Ismail, a right-back for Remo Stars, has been called up to the Super Eagles for the first time and is determined to make a strong case for a regular spot on the team.
Ismail, along with Olorunleke Ojo and Kenneth Igboke, is one of three home-based players selected for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and the Benin Republic.
The young defender is eager to learn from his experienced teammates and justify his selection. “It’s an honor to be alongside top players, and I hope to learn from them. I didn’t expect to be called up, so I’ll do my best to make the most of this opportunity,” he said.
Looking ahead to the match against South Africa, Ismail expressed confidence in the team’s abilities, stating, “We’re not under pressure. With God’s grace, we’ll win. If called upon, I’ll give my all, and we’ll prove ourselves if given the chance. We’ll secure qualification for the World Cup.”
