South East needs more States – Reps Member,Atu

The people of the South East have long expressed concerns about being marginalized in the country. Yet, there is no consensus on how to address this issue.

One perspective suggests that creating an additional state in the region could alleviate this marginalization, while another viewpoint argues that granting the presidency to the South East is the solution.

Nevertheless, Honourable Chimaobi Atu, a member of the House of Representatives representing Enugu South/Enugu North Federal Constituency in Enugu State, firmly asserts that establishing an additional state, increasing the number of local government areas, and allowing the South East to produce a President are vital steps to address the zone’s marginalization.

In an interview with Daily Sun, Atu also calls for amending the Electoral Act to empower the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disqualify candidates with counterfeit credentials and discusses various other issues.

In summary:

The South East region has faced longstanding marginalization concerns.
Atu supports both creating an additional state and having a South East President to rectify the situation.
He emphasizes the need for increased states and local government areas in the South East.
Atu is actively working to address this imbalance in the National Assembly, but he seeks support from other regions.
He advocates for the release of Nnamdi Kanu to foster harmony.
In his first 100 days in office, Atu has taken several actions, including addressing erosion problems, installing street lights, grading roads, and sponsoring bills such as establishing a Football Academy.
The Football Academy aims to engage youths and promote unity through sports.
Atu calls for the amendment of the Electoral Act to combat forgery in electoral qualifications.
He believes that INEC should have the authority to verify and disqualify candidates with fraudulent certificates, which he believes damages the education system.
Lastly, as the chairman of the Nigerian-Greece Parliamentary Friendship Group, Atu seeks to strengthen relationships between Nigeria and Greece, fostering mutually beneficial initiatives. He highlights the potential for learning from Greece’s democratic experience.
