The Super Eagles have successfully moved to Semi-finals where they will be playing for Quarterfinals between Cape Verde and South Africa. Ademola Lookman scored the goal for Super Eagles as Nigeria made it past the quarterfinals stage for the first time since 2019.
The goal scored by Lookman placed him into the record books as the fourth Nigerian to score three goals in the knockout rounds of a single AFCON edition, after Odion Ighalo in 2019 , Jay-Jay Okocha in in 2004, and Rashidi Yekini in 1994.
In the 77 minutes, Osimhen fired the second goal, but it was ruled out as an offside by VAR. Nigeria could’ve doubled their goal for the third time, but Sanusi couldn’t find Osimhen when he was in a good position, they missed the goal again.
Super Eagles dedicated their victory against Angola to ex-international player Late Samuel Okwaraji, who died playing against Angola 35 years ago.
Following Super Eagles triumph, there were Jubilation everywhere, super Eagles in a tweet dedicated their victory to Late Samuel Okwaraji, as they shared his picture. They wrote:
” As we celebrate this triumph, we also honour the memory of Late Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji, who tragically left us while playing against Angola 35 years ago”
Today’s victory over Angola is a poignant reminder of the adamant spirit of Nigerian football.
