Nigerian women’s national football team captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, remains optimistic about the team’s chances at the upcoming 2024 Olympics in Paris, despite their recent loss to Canada.
The Super Falcons fell short in their final pre-Olympic friendly match against Canada, losing 1-0. Canada capitalized on an early mistake by Nigerian midfielder Deborah Abiodun to score the game’s only goal in the eighth minute.
While the result wasn’t ideal, Ajibade highlighted the positive takeaways from the match. “It wasn’t a bad test match,” she said. “We had good moments in the game, we just didn’t finish our chances.”
Ajibade believes the game served as valuable preparation for the Olympics. “It was a good game to help us prepare ahead of the tournament,” she explained. “Now we know what we need to work on and move forward.”
The Super Falcons will kick off their Olympic campaign next Thursday against Brazil at the Stade Bordeaux in Bordeaux, France.
