The governor of Kebbi plans to raise health workers’ allowances in order to “bridge the pay gap.”
Kebbi Governor Nasir Idris said he will try to raise the state’s medical personnel’s allowances.
His spokesperson, Ahmed Idris, said in a statement released on Monday that the governor made his remarks at a dinner honouring 13 indigenous medical doctors who received their degrees from Usman Danfodio University in Sokoto.
The governor pledged to give the health sector “more priority” due to its critical role in saving lives.
He continued by saying that reducing the difference in medical staff allowances between the federal and state governments will motivate them to serve their constituents.
The statement said, “I will do my best to increase the allowances paid to doctors and other medical staff, so that the gap between the federal and state governments is filled and they can continue to work for their people at home.””I’m glad you guys graduated and are prepared to work for the state now.
“To support their academic activities, this administration has also increased the scholarship allowance of medical students studying at various universities from N30,000 to N50,000.”
