I am still wondering about the difference between European Masquerades and African Masquerades. As a Deliverance Minister, I am aware of the origin of occultism that was introduced in the world by Nimrod and his wife, Semiramis, which led to the worship of images of men and beasts and other creatures. Some of these creatures became totems that are revered by their worshippers.
In Amucha and other towns around Njaba River, for instance, the Python is a totem animal that is revered. There is an Okorosha Masquerade that is carved with Mammy Water (Mermaid) wearing the Python around her neck. Nimrod introduced emperor worship and was worshiped as a god. When he died, his wife gave birth to Tammuz and claimed that it was Nimrod her husband that came back to the world. She was regarded as the mother of their god. She was carved as a woman carrying her baby Tammuz who was actually their god. She became known as the mother of their god.
When the European Christian Missionaries conquered Europe with the gospel of Christianity, they converted the ancient temples of the occult religion into Christian churches and changed the names of those idols. The image of Semiramis and Tammuz became known as Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ. Mary became known as the Mother of God. But we know that God has no mother. They failed to differentiate the humanity of Jesus Christ from his divinity which can easily be understood by the proper understanding of Isaiah 9:6.
