Donald Trump’s campaign has announced a record-breaking haul of nearly $53 million in online small-dollar donations following his conviction in the New York hush money trial. The campaign boasts that the verdict has galvanized support for Trump “like never before,” with over a third of the total coming from new donors.
Despite temporary online delays due to high traffic, the campaign’s digital fundraising system raised over $2 million per hour. Trump’s campaign aides, Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles, attribute the outpouring of support to an “awakened” MAGA movement, claiming that the “sham trial verdict” has sparked a surge in donations from “patriots across our country.”
Trump’s campaign website redirected visitors to a fundraising page declaring him a “political prisoner” shortly after the conviction, which temporarily crashed due to the high volume of supporters.
Trump has a history of turning scandal to his advantage, characterizing his legal woes as a battle against the “deep state” and casting himself as a martyr.
