South African singer Tyla’s self-titled debut album has been reassigned from the R&B to the Pop category for the Grammys, according to Hollywood Reporters. This move follows the Recording Academy’s R&B screening committee review.
If nominated in the Pop category, Tyla would become the first African artist to compete alongside prominent artists like Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Sabrina Carpenter.
Tyla reacted positively to the change, saying “I make it all” on X. She previously won the inaugural Grammy for Best African Music Performance for her song “Water” earlier this year.
