United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has emphasized the need for Africa to have a permanent seat on the UN Security Council. He described the current situation as “outrageous” and called for the correction of “historic injustices” against the continent.
Guterres made these remarks while addressing African leaders at the China-Africa forum. He highlighted the challenges faced by African countries, including debt, limited access to debt relief, and scarce resources. He also praised China’s development record and its potential to support Africa’s growth in various areas.
The UN chief emphasized the need for effective debt relief and sufficient funding to support Africa’s growth and development. He also noted that China’s experience and expertise can be a catalyst for key transitions on food systems and digital connectivity in Africa.
