Over 635,000 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) remain uncollected in Edo and Ondo states, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) launches its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
According to INEC statistics, 373,030 PVCs are unclaimed in Edo State, while 261,981 remain uncollected in Ondo State. This development comes as both states prepare for upcoming governorship elections, scheduled for September 21, 2024, in Edo State and November 16, 2024, in Ondo State.
The CVR exercise, which runs from May 27 to June 5, aims to provide an opportunity for eligible voters to register and collect their PVCs ahead of the elections. INEC officials and corps members will conduct the exercise at 397 walk-in registration centers, ward levels, and state headquarters to ensure accessibility and efficiency.
INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu emphasized the provisions allowing voters to transfer their registration from other states to Edo and Ondo, as well as relocate their voting credentials within the two states. This initiative aims to streamline the process, address time constraints, and ensure a more inclusive registration process.
The Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, expressed confidence in the smooth conduct of the CVR and encouraged eligible voters to take advantage of the exercise to exercise their right to vote. He assured that the process would be made as seamless as possible.
