The Imo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has upheld the election of Hope Uzodimma as the state’s governor.
In a unanimous decision, the three-member panel led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay ruled that Uzodimma’s election was in compliance with the Electoral Act.
The tribunal dismissed the petition filed by the Labour Party and its governorship candidate, Athan Achonu, who had challenged the outcome of the 2022 governorship election.
In the election, Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won with 540,308 votes, while Senator Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured 71,503 votes, and Achonu came third with 64,081 votes.
Achonu had alleged electoral malpractices in some areas of the state and sought to have Uzodimma’s election annulled. However, the tribunal’s ruling has validated Uzodimma’s position as the duly elected governor of Imo State.
