Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has been recognized for his outstanding debut season in the German top flight, earning a spot in the prestigious Bundesliga Team of the Season.
He joins Serhou Guirassy as the only two African players on the list.
Boniface’s impressive performances for Bayer Leverkusen, including 19 goals and eight assists, despite a four-month injury layoff, secured his place alongside six other Leverkusen players in the Team of the Season. The 23-year-old forms a formidable attack alongside Harry Kane and Guirassy.
The Team of the Season also features Leverkusen’s Granit Xhaka and Florian Wirtz in midfield, while Alex Grimaldo, Jeremie Frimpong, and Tah, as well as Stuttgart’s Anton, make up the defense. Gregor Kobel of Borussia Dortmund is the chosen goalkeeper.
Boniface and his Leverkusen teammates are on the verge of making history, aiming to become the first team to go an entire Bundesliga season unbeaten.
They face Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday, looking to extend their record-breaking unbeaten streak to 48 matches.
Leverkusen’s impressive form has also put them in a strong position to win the UEFA Europa League, with a 2-0 win over Roma in the semi-final first leg.
The prospect of a treble is very much alive, and Boniface will be eager to continue his stellar form as his team chases history.
