Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State, has warned Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors not to interfere in the party’s affairs in Rivers State. Wike threatened to cause a political crisis in the states of any PDP governor who tries to interfere in the party’s affairs in Rivers.
Wike’s warning comes after PDP governors met in Taraba State on August 23 and expressed support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who is embroiled in a crisis with Wike. The PDP Governors’ Forum called for a review of the party congress outcome to restore Fubara’s leadership role in the state.
Wike, speaking at the PDP secretariat in Port Harcourt, vowed not to allow anyone to take over the party’s structure in Rivers State. He warned PDP governors to stay clear of the party’s affairs in Rivers, threatening to cause a political crisis in their states if they interfere.
Wike’s threat is seen as a response to the PDP governors’ support for Fubara, which he perceives as an attempt to undermine his influence in Rivers State. The crisis between Wike and Fubara has been ongoing, with Wike’s predecessor absent at the party’s congress.
