The World Igbo Congress (WIC) has announced an emergency meeting scheduled for Friday, January 25, to address key issues affecting Nigeria’s Southeast region.
According to a statement by WIC’s Board Chairman, Dr. Festus Okere, the meeting will be convened by Vice Chairman Basil Onwukwe at 7:00 p.m. Alaigbo time.
The agenda includes the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who has been facing terrorism charges since his extradition from Kenya in June 2021. Recently, Kanu requested the transfer of his case to the Southeast, citing difficulties with judges presiding in Abuja.
Other topics to be discussed include leadership challenges in the Southeast, rising insecurity and militarization in the region, and the development of a unified diaspora approach to address these issues.
This meeting highlights WIC’s commitment to addressing challenges facing Ndigbo and advocating for the progress of the Southeast.
