#EndSARS: Mr. Macaroni and Other Activists Commemorate 3rd Anniversary at Lekki Toll Gate Despite High Security PresenceRenowned comedian and skit maker, Adebowale Adedeyo, known by his stage name Mr. Macaroni, was among a group of young Nigerians who gathered at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos on Friday to commemorate the third anniversary of the #EndSARS protests and to honor the memory of protesters who were allegedly killed by security forces on October 20, 2020.
Despite a significant police presence in the area, including the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, and other senior police officials, Adebayo and his fellow protesters defiantly assembled at the Lekki toll gate. It’s worth noting that the Lagos State Police Command had issued a warning against any form of gathering or assembly at the Lekki Tollgate in commemoration of the #EndSARS memorial.
Mr. Macaroni had previously announced plans for a ‘peaceful walk’ as a tribute to those who were reported to have lost their lives at the hands of security personnel on the fateful night of October 20, 2020 when protesters were dispersed from the toll gate after many days of protests.
He emphasized that this protest was not only to remember those affected on that date but also to honor the memory of all individuals who have lost their lives due to police brutality throughout Nigeria. In his own words, he expressed, “Three years now! We will never forget! #EndSARS! We will walk peacefully to honor all those who lost their lives on 20/10/2020! We also walk for all those who have lost their lives due to police brutality in Nigeria! We walk in peace! We will never forget!”
