A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Martin Otse, aka VeryDarkMan, a social media critic accused of cyberbullying. He was released from police custody on Monday after meeting the bail terms, although the specific conditions remain undisclosed.
Otse faced charges related to cyberstalking and was arraigned on May 22. The Nigerian police charged him with posting offensive videos on Instagram and making indecent allegations against Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh.
The charges included posting grossly offensive and indecent content, alleging an indecent sexual relationship between Iyabo Ojo and her daughter, and accusing Tonto Dikeh of being behind the gossip blog Gistlover.
Otse denied all charges, and his legal team requested he remain in police custody instead of being remanded in prison.
The court approved this request, and he was transferred to the National Cybercrime Centre.
This is not Otse’s first encounter with law enforcement. He was initially arrested on March 22 but released on March 31.
His lawyer revealed that the arrest was based on complaints from Tonto Dikeh, Iyabo Ojo, and Samklef.
