A group of concerned citizens, Kaduna Citizens Watch for Good Governance, has submitted a petition to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) against former Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The petition requests an immediate investigation and prosecution of El-Rufai for alleged theft of N423 billion.
The group’s action follows a report by the Kaduna State House of Assembly, which indicted El-Rufai and his appointees for misappropriating loans and stealing public funds. The protesters, who marched to the ICPC office in Kaduna, demanded El-Rufai’s immediate arrest and probe. They also submitted a similar petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.
The Chairman of the group, Victor Duniya, emphasized that prosecuting El-Rufai and his cabinet members would serve as a deterrent to public officials in the state. He expressed confidence in the anti-graft agencies’ ability to combat corruption in Nigeria. The Kaduna State House of Assembly’s ad hoc committee report had revealed that most loans obtained under El-Rufai’s administration were not used for their intended purposes.
