According to Daily Post, The Enugu State Government has announced plans to begin the demolition of marked structures along two major road projects in the state.
According to a statement released on Saturday by Ngozi Ngene, the Public Relations Officer of the Enugu State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, the affected areas include structures along the 44.1km Nike Lake Road Dualization Project from Peenox-Nowas-Ugwuogo-Opi Nsukka and the Abakpa Nike-Opi Nsukka Junction. Also affected are structures along the 21.5km Enugu Airport Road Flyover Bridge project, covering Eke Obinagu-Owo Junction, Amechi Idodo, and the Ebonyi Border.
Residents and property owners in these areas have been advised to vacate immediately to prevent damage to belongings or loss of life. The government had previously issued notices and marked the affected structures.
Ngene emphasized that any complaints should be directed to the Lands/Property Reconciliation and Compensation Committee at the Abuja Building, Government House, Enugu.
“This demolition is part of the government’s efforts to enhance infrastructure, improve road safety, ease traffic congestion, and boost the quality of life for residents,” she stated.
The Enugu State Government assured the public that the demolition is necessary for development and that affected property owners will receive appropriate compensation.
