Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has upped the ante in the search for the killers of five soldiers. He announced an increase in the reward from N25 million to N30 million for information leading to their arrest.
The soldiers were fatally shot by unknown gunmen at a military checkpoint in Aba. The attackers also burned two patrol vans.
Governor Otti previously offered a N25 million bounty for information about the perpetrators. During a meeting with military officials, he confirmed the increase, attributing the additional N5 million to a donation from an Abia indigene residing in the United States.
Otti condemned the attack and vowed to make Abia an unfriendly environment for criminals. He commended the military for their efforts in maintaining security but emphasized the state’s commitment to bringing the soldiers’ killers to justice.
