Ogun community decries lack of health center

The residents of Ayetoro Makun in the Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State are expressing their concern over the absence of a public health centre in the community. They highlighted the difficulties faced in obtaining medical treatment, stating that they have to travel a significant distance to access proper medications.

According to reports by PUNCH Metro, pregnant women, in particular, find themselves in a challenging situation, often relying on untrained nurses during childbirth due to the lack of local health facilities.

Rev. Morenikeji Afosi, a resident, emphasized the challenges, stating, “We travel miles to receive health attention, going as far as Babcock Hospital in Ilishan. Many of my neighbors have had similar experiences in the same hospital.”

Rev. Afosi appealed to the state government for assistance in establishing a standard public health centre in the community to alleviate the residents’ suffering.

Another resident, Mr. Igbinigie ThankGod, shared his difficulty in seeking medical treatment, expressing the inconvenience of going to the neighboring Mowe, especially late at night. He highlighted the urgent need for a local health center, stating, “There are critical health conditions that require immediate attention. Without a public health center in the community, how will victims survive?”

In response, the LGA chairman, Odulate Afolabi, acknowledged an ongoing project on public health centers. He assured the residents that Ayetoro Makun is on the list for a new health center, mentioning a maternity center currently under construction in another town. He emphasized the commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.
