The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has impounded 9,370 vehicles in the past six months for various traffic violations. According to the General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Ok, the agency has been working tirelessly to improve traffic management in the state.
From January to June 2024, LASTMA impounded 3,034 private vehicles, including 1,849 cars, 549 buses, and 636 Sports Utility Vehicles. Unfortunately, 256 casualties were recorded during the same period.
To improve its services, LASTMA has trained over 2,000 staff members, both internally and externally, in areas such as leadership skills, emotional intelligence, customer care, and incidents management. The authority has also collaborated with the Nigerian Police and external consultants to enhance its operations.
LASTMA has been actively enforcing traffic rules across the state, clearing Apapa Port and other areas such as Iyana-Ipaja, Idumota, Apogbon, CMS, and Lekki-Ajah axis. The agency aims to improve travel time for Lagos residents and has deployed over 2,000 traffic equipment to achieve this goal.
Bakare-Ok emphasized the importance of obeying traffic rules and respecting traffic managers. He also announced that LASTMA’s call center will be launched soon, providing a toll-free service that accepts feedback in English, Yoruba, and Pidgin.
