The Minister of State for Police Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim has said that the planned withdrawal of Police personnel from very important personalities (VIPs) security duties is a directive from President Bola Tinubu and will be implemented by the ministry noting that the mandate also includes amending the Nigerian Police.
The minister went on to say that creating and implementing a harmonised police reform report and creating a community policing strategy for the NPF are two more important tasks assigned to the Ministry.
“Developing and implementing a harmonised police reform report, amending the Police Act, carrying out Mr. President’s directive on the withdrawal of police personnel from VIP security duties, and developing a community policing strategy” are the main responsibilities of the Ministry of Police Affairs.
At the 2-Day Directorate Cadre Retreat in Abuja, with the topic “Re: Envisioning the Ministry of Police Affairs for Effective Internal Security: Strengthening Administration and Management Functions for Resilience and Efficiency,” she revealed this.
The Minister stated, “This two-day management retreat will inspire a collective commitment to align efforts of the Ministerial mandate to contribute to the realisation of Mr. President’s vision for a renewed, highly effective Nigeria Police Force.” “These mandates are not mere tasks but transformative initiatives that can enhance internal security in Nigeria,” the Minister continued.
The minister stated that “the Nigeria Police Force is facing a critical moment as a result of years of disregard that have made it more difficult for it to carry out its constitutional responsibility.
The Ministry of Police Affairs has also not been spared. But with Mr. President’s pledge to restructure the Nigeria Police Force, the Ministry is now leading the Police Transformation Agenda, and it needs to live up to the challenge.
“It is the Ministry’s heavy duty to ensure coordination and establish the necessary frameworks to lead the Nigeria Police Force towards enhanced operational and technical efficacy.”
“Reports are essential instruments for improving police performance; they must be factual, useful, and supported by evidence.
