Nigerian music star Shallipopi has accused his former record label, Dapper Music, of financial exploitation and a breach of trust. The accusations come weeks after the artist officially parted ways with the label in November 2024.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Shallipopi explained the reasons behind his decision to end ties with both Dapper Music and Dvpper Digital. He alleged mismanagement of his finances and disregard for his rights as an artist, stating that the experience left him no choice but to terminate their agreement.
He wrote, “I am officially ending my agreement with Dapper Music and Dvpper Digital. This was not a choice I made lightly, but a step I had to take after my trust was broken, my finances mishandled, and my rights were disregarded as an artist.”
Shallipopi emphasized that the issue extends beyond his personal grievances, highlighting the struggles faced by many artists and creators who dedicate themselves to their craft but face betrayal and exploitation from those meant to support them.
He continued, “Instead of prioritizing my growth, they prioritised their own profits, putting my career and dreams at risk. This is about standing up for fairness, integrity, and respect that we all deserve.”
