Benin City, 23rd December 2023 – The assistant kit manager of Sunshine Stars, Taiwo Dosunmu, who sustained injuries in a gunmen’s attack on the team earlier this month, has tragically passed away.
Dosunmu succumbed to his injuries on Friday, December 22, at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, where he had been undergoing treatment. In an official statement, the club expressed deep sorrow, stating, “With a lot of pains in our hearts, we announce the untimely transition to eternity of our dear brother and assistant kit manager, Taiwo Dosunmu, who died in the line of duty by the bullets of armed bandits along Benin-Ore expressway on Thursday, December 7, 2023. “The statement further highlighted Dosunmu’s dedication, describing him as a hard-working individual who approached his job with utmost seriousness.
It also acknowledged his selflessness during the attack, which played a crucial role in saving the lives of players and other members of the Sunshine Stars management.Dosunmu’s passing follows the attack on Sunshine Stars along the Benin-Ore expressway on December 7, as the team was en route to a Nigeria Premier Football League match against Bendel Insurance in Benin.
The club mentioned that burial arrangements for the deceased would be announced by the family.
