The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas, has announced that the organization will meet to discuss the Federal Government’s directive to stop depicting money rituals, smoking, and crime scenes in Nigerian movies. Rollas expressed support for the directive, but emphasized that his opinion does not represent the collective stand of the organization.
The Federal Government’s directive aims to prevent the glamorization of harmful activities that may promote harm in society. Rollas noted that the government is not banning these scenes outright, but rather seeking to prevent their glamorization. He cited the example of musicians who avoid depicting smoking in their videos to appeal to a global audience.
Rollas emphasized that it is possible to tell stories about money rituals without glamorizing them. The Actors Guild of Nigeria will meet to discuss the directive and determine their collective stance.
Similarly, the National President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Producers Association of Nigeria, Bolaji Amusan, announced that his organization will also meet to discuss the directive. He expressed support for the Federal Government’s efforts to protect Nigerian culture and stated that the organization will engage with the government to address any concerns.
