A 31-year-old pastor, Oluwasegun Victor, has been remanded in prison for allegedly raping and impregnating a minor in Ondo State. The pastor was arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court in Akure, the state capital.
The prosecutor, David Ebriku, told the court that the defendant committed the offense on July 24, 2024, at Oba Ile Community in Akure North Local Government Area. The charge read that Victor had unlawful sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl, which is contrary to Section 31(1) of the Child Rights Laws of Ondo State 2007 and punishable under Section 31(2) of the same laws.
The defense counsel, Alex Olademehin, requested time to respond to the remand application. The magistrate, Taiwo Lebi, ordered the defendant to be remanded at a correctional center and adjourned the case until September 19, 2024, for a hearing on the bail application.
