The announcement came during the G20 Compact with Africa summit in Berlin, where Scholz discussed the initiative. He emphasized the importance of processing green energy materials in African nations to create jobs and prosperity.
The Compact with Africa, initiated by Germany during its G20 chairmanship, aims to enhance economic conditions for participating countries, making them more appealing to foreign private investment. Scholz expressed Germany’s commitment to becoming a long-term and reliable partner to African countries, emphasizing Africa as a preferred partner for intensifying economic relations and achieving a climate-neutral future.
The Compact with Africa countries, including Egypt, Ethiopia, Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Guinea, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Morocco, Rwanda, Senegal, Togo, and Tunisia, are part of this initiative.In response to China’s presence in Africa, African leaders stressed openness to diverse partnerships. Moussa Faki, the chairperson of the African Union Commission, acknowledged China’s audacity and vision but expressed the continent’s openness to various collaborations. He emphasized the need for trust, fewer conditions, and joint efforts in creating favorable conditions for investments, underscoring the shared responsibility of improving governance.Credit: Afp
