The Kogi State House of Assembly has demanded the removal of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, citing unprofessional handling of the corruption case against former Governor Yahaya Bello.
During a plenary session, lawmakers condemned the EFCC’s siege on the Kogi State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, where Bello was allegedly targeted for arrest. They accused the EFCC of attempting to assassinate Bello and incumbent Governor Usman Ododo.
Lawmakers argued that the EFCC’s approach was humiliating and showed incompetence, warranting Olukoyede’s removal. They passed a resolution asking President Bola Tinubu to relieve the EFCC chairman of his duties.
However, a non-governmental organization, Journalists, alleged that Kogi Governor Ododo was shielding Bello from justice by obstructing the EFCC’s arrest efforts. The NGO urged President Tinubu to intervene.
