President Bola Tinubu met with the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, and his running mate, Dennis Idahosa, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The meeting came as the Edo State APC chapter expressed confidence in its chances of winning the governorship election.
The APC attributed its confidence to the crisis within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state and the perceived disconnect between the PDP candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, and the people of Edo State. The party believes its candidate, Monday Okpebholo, a grassroots politician, has an advantage over his PDP counterpart.
The meeting was led by former Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, and the Minister of Niger Delta Development, Abubakar Momoh. When approached for comments, Okpebholo described the meeting as private talks, while Oshiomhole expressed confidence in the APC’s chances, citing the disarray within the PDP.
Oshiomhole dismissed allegations that the APC was involved in the PDP’s primary election crisis, stating that it was an intra-party conflict. He emphasized the importance of parties obeying the laws regulating primary conduct. The minister also affirmed the APC’s advantage in the coming election.
