The Kaduna State chapter of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives has suspended its five-day warning strike, which began on July 8, 2024. The strike was called to demand improved welfare packages for nurses.
The union’s Chairman, Ishaku Yahaya, announced the suspension in a statement, citing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the government. The MoU follows negotiations with the Secretary to the State Government, Head of Service, and Commissioner for Health.
Yahaya commended the support and resilience of union members, noting the strike’s success and 100% compliance. He assured members that the union will continue to represent their interests and resume industrial action if the government fails to fulfill its promises.
The strike has been suspended, and nurses are expected to resume their duties on July 10, 2024.
