I won’t spare corrupt APC politicians – New Efcc chairman
Ola Olukoyede, the newly confirmed Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has pledged to prosecute corrupt politicians, regardless of their political party affiliations. His confirmation, along with Muhammad Hammajoda as Secretary of the anti-graft agency, occurred about a week after their appointment by President Bola Tinubu.
During his screening, Olukoyede emphasized that the EFCC will remain impartial and resolute in the fight against corruption. He asserted that individuals associated with the ruling party or the opposition would be investigated if linked to financial crimes.
Olukoyede explained that the key factor in investigating political opponents is whether they have committed financial crimes. If so, he stated there is a reason to investigate them, regardless of their party affiliation.
President Tinubu had suspended Abdulrasheed Bawa, the former EFCC boss, on June 14 to enable an investigation into allegations of abuse of office. After the suspension, Abdulkarim Chukkol assumed the role of acting EFCC chair, and Bawa was taken into custody by the Department of State Services (DSS) as part of the investigation process.
Additionally, the Senate confirmed the appointment of Halima Shehu as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA) during Wednesday’s plenary.
