Court Sentences Ondo Man
Ondo man, Abayomi Joseph, has been sentenced to death by an Ondo State High Court in Akure for killing his neighbour, Thomas Oluwole, in 2021.
The incident occurred in the Ijoka area of Akure following an allegation of well water poisoning against the deceased’s daughter by Joseph.
In the heated argument, Joseph attacked the 63-year-old with a machete, leading to his death. Joseph was arrested, charged with murder, and arraigned in court.
During the proceedings, Joseph claimed to be insane while committing the crime. After arguments from both prosecution and defense, the court found Joseph guilty. Justice O.S Kuteyi delivered the verdict, stating that Joseph’s deliberate attack on the deceased warranted the death penalty.
The court held, “His attempt to raise insanity was only a ploy to cover the truth of the killing. The evidence of running to a mountain top and seeing a pastor was a failed ploy to rely on insane delusion.”Credit: Punch News
