A 36-year-old Nigerian pilot, Olukayode Ojo, has been convicted of making false statements to obtain a certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the United States. He faces a potential sentence of up to five years in federal prison and fines of up to $250,000 for each count.
Ojo was found guilty of making false statements to conceal his history of prior criminal convictions while applying for an FAA First Class Medical Certificate, which permits an airman to pilot commercial passenger aircraft.
The case was investigated by the Transportation Security Administration—Investigations and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jackson Eldridge and Matt Dillon. Ojo’s sentencing is yet to be announced.
