ID Cabasa Calls for Unity: “New Artists Must Respect Legends”
Veteran record producer, Olumide Ogunade, aka ID Cabasa, has weighed in on the ongoing debate between new generation artists and music legends in Nigeria. He emphasized the need for mutual respect and understanding to promote peace in the industry.
ID Cabasa stressed that new artists should show respect to veteran musicians, while veterans should be more gracious and supportive. He encouraged legends to uplift young artists instead of being overly critical, saying, “The new guys need to respect the OGs.
The OGs need to be more honourable. You are not competing against these guys. If you see yourself as a competition to these guys, what you’ve done is that you’ve mortgaged your honour.”
His comments come amid a recent social media controversy involving Burna Boy, Eedris Abdulkareem, and other artists, which highlighted the generational divide in the Nigerian music industry. ID Cabasa’s call for unity and respect aims to bridge this gap and foster a more collaborative environment for musicians across all generations.
