The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has given owners of undeveloped properties in Abuja a three-month ultimatum to develop their buildings or face demolition. This decision follows a rise in shanties and illegal structures posing security risks to residents.
According to Felix Obuah, Coordinator of the Abuja Municipal Management Council, these undeveloped buildings harbor “men of questionable character.” Failure to comply will result in revocation of land titles and demolition of structures.
The FCTA aims to address the rapid expansion of shanties and squatters in uncompleted buildings and undeveloped plots. Property owners must secure and develop their properties within the stipulated period to avoid action.
