NSCDC Official Killed as Terrorists Bomb Transmission Towers

30th December 2023In a tragic incident along the Maiduguri-Damaturu Transmission Line, terrorists targeted and bombed three power transmission towers, resulting in the death of an officer from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), as confirmed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, Ndidi Mbah, revealed in a statement issued in Abuja that the bomb blast occurred on Thursday, marking a second such incident within a week. The destruction of the towers on December 28, 2023, not only led to the loss of vital infrastructure but also claimed the life of the NSCDC officer.Mbah expressed TCN’s condolences, stating, “TCN commiserates with the family of the deceased and the NSCDC for this very sad and shocking incident.

“A counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, specializing in the Lake Chad region, shared details on the unfortunate event. Makama, through his verified handle, disclosed that the NSCDC personnel, identified as Nurudeen, lost his life while inspecting the vandalized electricity tower.

According to Makama, Nurudeen inadvertently stepped on a minor line connected to explosives, triggering the bomb explosion. In a series of posts accompanied by a photo of the deceased at the scene, Makama wrote, “The Nigerian Civil Defence personnel, Nurudeen, paid the supreme price as a result of the bomb explosion which brought down three power towers along Jakana-Auno in the early hours of today, 28/12/2023.

“He further explained, “This was the last photo of Nurudeen, the NSCDC personnel who stepped on explosives at the scene of the vandalized electricity tower. If you look critically, there was a tiny line across the path, attached to both components on his left and the right-hand sides, I guess that was the trigger.

“The incident highlights the ongoing challenges and risks faced by security personnel in regions affected by insurgency, underscoring the need for heightened vigilance and security measures to protect critical infrastructure and human lives.Credit Punch News
