The Lagos State Police Command has officially acknowledged the receipt of a petition filed by renowned Nigerian singer and songwriter, Tiwa Savage. The petition alleges incidents of bullying and threats to her life by Grammy-nominated artist David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
According to Benjamin Hundeyin, the State Police Public Relations Officer, an inquiry by PUNCH Metro on Tuesday prompted the confirmation that the police have received the petition, and investigations are now underway. Hundeyin stated, “I can confirm to you that we have received the petition and investigation has commenced.”
In the circulated petition, Savage accuses Davido of using disrespectful language in response to a post that featured herself and the singer’s baby mama, Sophia Momodu, on Instagram.
Savage details how she expressed disappointment at Davido’s threats and reminded him of her support during difficult times, particularly when he lost his son, Ifeanyi. Following this, she claims to have received calls from mutual connections inquiring about her actions and questioning her relationship with Sophia.
Part of the petition reads, “On the 23rd of December, I made a post which included myself and Sophia Momodu’s Instagram Story… Mr. David Adeleke sent messages to my manager, who’s also part of his management team, that I shouldn’t worry and should never say a word to him.”
Savage alleges that Davido told their mutual connections to warn her to be careful in Lagos as he was going to deal with her. She asserts that these actions amount to harassment, posing a threat to her rights to life, privacy, and dignity.
The public became aware of the discord between the two artists on January 6, 2024, after both unfollowed each other on Instagram. Prior to this, music executive Tee Billz had accused Davido of disrespecting his family, particularly “bullying” Tiwa Savage.
As of the time of this report, calls to Davido’s manager, Asa Asika, went unanswered, and a text message sent to him remained unresponded.
The unfolding situation has left fans speculating on the reasons behind the rift, with some suggesting it could be related to the growing friendship between Savage and Sophia. The once cordial relationship between Davido and Savage, highlighted by their children attending the same school, now appears to be marred by allegations and public discord.
