A Nigerian military personnel, Ruth Ogunleye, has recently come forward with serious allegations against her superiors, identifying them as Col.
IB Abdulkareem, Col. GS Ogor, and Brig. Gen. IB Solebo.Ogunleye, known as @Ogunleyeruthsavage1 on TikTok, shared her distressing experience on the platform.
She accused Col. IB Abdulkareem of attempting to assault her, administering injections against her will, forcibly removing her from her residence, and confining her in a psychiatric hospital for several months.
According to Ogunleye, Abdulkareem hindered her career advancement by denying her promotion courses because she rejected his advances. She appealed to Nigerians for support, acknowledging potential consequences, and revealed that her father had tried to intervene but was told to convey the message to her to “Obey the last command,” which was for the colonel to “sleep with her.
“The Nigerian Army has promised to investigate Ogunleye’s allegations. Maj. Gen. Nwachukwu Onyema, the Director of Army Public Relations, emphasized that a thorough investigation would be conducted, expressing commitment to upholding the integrity and morals of its personnel. However, Onyema criticized the female soldier for not following the laid-down procedure to seek redress.
He urged the public to allow the investigative process to take its course, emphasizing the Army’s dedication to serving the nation with honor and integrity.
This incident adds to a series of reports of maltreatment by soldiers in the Nigerian Army. Inibehe Effiong, a public interest and human rights lawyer, filed a petition regarding the assault on police officer ASP Edet Inyang, calling for accountability. Additionally, in November 2023, the Nigerian Army allegedly invaded the Adamawa State Police Command headquarters, resulting in the death of Inspector Jacob Daniel.
President Bola Tinubu issued a stern warning to the Nigerian Army in December, urging them to refrain from retaliatory assaults on the police or civilian population over any provocation. The situation underscores the need for a thorough investigation into allegations of misconduct within the Nigerian military
